Corrections to August 2001 Newsletter
Patric Johnstone points out that the Target store lights shown in the picture on page 7 are not the ones he was referring to. Although they do not aim light UP like the very worst kind of light-polluting fixures, they do send light OUT more than the ideal (full cutoff) kind. He says:
The newsletter item follows a Door County Advocate letter published at the end of June in which I praised the Highway Department for installing the newer, glare-free roadway lights at the intersection that joins the highway with the Target store. The photo in the newsletter is of lights within the Target parking lot, which are awful, high-glare fixtures that scatter excessive amounts of light in all directions for the purpose of attracting customers, and are banned in most communities that have outdoor lighting ordinances.
The highway lights at the Target intersection. These are the good kind.
